Pattern Grading

Pattern grading is the technical art of proportionally increasing or decreasing a given size pattern piece from one size to another, retaining everything true to its original form.
  • After your design is approved and patterns finalised, the next step is to produce all other sizes in your size range; this is called ‘pattern grading’. With over 30 years of expertise, PatternWise specialises in grading apparel patterns for Adults, Plus Size, Babies, Kids, Swimwear and Corsetry.
  • Pattern grading involves applying grading increments to points on the pattern pieces to scale the pattern up or down in size. These increments are referred to as grading rules and the process requires technical expertise to ensure the garment is identical in fit and proportion across all sizes.
  • This is performed accurately and efficiently using our CAD system, with all graded patterns being stored digitally. These can then be sent to manufacturers digitally in the file format that you require or printed as a hard copy in paper or cardboard.
  • We offer guidance on developing your ‘Size Chart’, a crucial element to establish early in your brand’s development. Adhering to this chart is essential to maintain consistent fit across different styles, ensuring your brand’s credibility with customers.
